It is Gerber Goldschmidt Group’s mission to emulate the moral principles and business ethics of the original founders, while managing and growing the Company. GGG core values include work ethic, leadership, integrity, passion, entrepreneurship, and teamwork.
Gerber Goldschmidt Group is one of those rare, privately owned international groups whose origins go back over a century and whose control and management still rest in the hands of the founding family.
In 1907, Meyer Hirsch Goldschmidt left his hometown of Hamburg, Germany to head to Southern Africa as the sales representative of a Berlin Export Trading House where he found success supplying the rapidly expanding mining towns. The advent of World War I forced MHG (as he was known) into an internment camp where he was reunited with old friends George Griesbach and Jacob Gerber. Together the three formulated a post-war business plan to continue import/export trade and distribution in Germany and South Africa, and a new and successful business venture was launched.
1920
The group expanded into the UK (formally registered in 1925) and the United States. MHG received a South African license to represent foreign firms, thus marking the formal registered formation of the company – Gerber Goldschmidt Group (GGG).
1978
David Ellman joined Gerber Goldschmidt Group in South Africa and opened the San Diego Family Office in 1987, which became the Group’s Headquarters.
2018
David Ellman’s son, Daniel Ellman (4th generation), becomes Chief Executive Officer.
2020
Gerber Goldschmidt Group celebrates 100 years.
TODAY
GGG continues to thrive and has multiple offices in the United States, United Kingdom, Japan, Netherlands, South Africa, and Brazil.
